Web Push Permission Guide

For a web push notification to arrive, both of the following permissions must be allowed.

  1. The operating system (OS) allows notifications from the browser
  2. The browser allows notifications from the individual website

This guide walks through both checks in order. Start with your device and operating system, then check the site permission in the browser you use.

1. Check the operating system notification settings

Section titled “1. Check the operating system notification settings”

If browser notifications are turned off at the operating system level, no notification can be delivered. Select your device and turn on notifications for the browser app.

  1. Search for Notifications from the taskbar and open Notifications & actions settings.

  2. Turn on Get notifications from apps and other senders, then find your browser under Get notifications from these senders and allow it.

2. Check the site notification permission in the browser

Section titled “2. Check the site notification permission in the browser”

After the operating system check, make sure the browser is not blocking notifications from the website. After changing a setting, close the settings screen and reload the site.

  1. Open the menu in the top right and click Settings.

  2. Click Privacy and security.

  3. Click Site settings.

  4. Click Notifications.

  5. Select Sites can ask to send notifications, open the settings for the site, and choose Allow.

  6. Close the settings and reload the site.

  1. Open the menu in the top right and tap Settings.

  2. Tap Site settings, then Notifications.

  3. Turn on Notifications, then tap the site under Blocked and turn on Show notifications.

  4. Close the settings and reload the site.
